Meet one of Central America's silliest creatures: the sloth! More Muppet than mammal, the baby sloth in our Central America Photo of the month almost looks like he's smiling. He's a lucky resident of the Aviarios del Caribe Wildlife Sanctuary Sloth Rescue Center, twenty miles from Limon on Costa Rica's Caribbean coast.
Two-toed sloths live in the treetops of Central America and South America. They're nocturnal, and though they can't walk too well, they're excellent swimmers. This sloth picture was provided by Wild Planet Adventures, an eco-tourism company offering wildlife tours in Costa Rica, Belize and Panama.
