The Pacific village of San Juan del Sur in Nicaragua has swelled from fishing village to the country's most popular coastal destination in just a few short years.
In San Juan del Sur, surfers and backpackers make up a majority of the itinerant population. However, quality San Juan del Sur hotels and resorts like Piedras y Olas and Morgan's Rock please more discerning travelers -- as long as they don't mind the occasional power outage, a few creepy crawlies, and other eccentricities that make San Juan del Sur unique.
