A Central America Christmas

Saturday December 20, 2008
Because Central America's countries are largely Catholic, Central America Christmases are vibrant.

Many Central America Christmas traditions resemble those in the United States, but many others differ significantly. Belize is a multicultural nation, and the holiday is lively with Garifuna dancers and Creole Christmas songs. Tamales are a Christmas dinner staple in Guatemala, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and El Salvador. In Costa Rica, Santa Claus doesn't bring Christmas presents--they are said to be brought by Baby Jesus!

I’d love to experience a Central America Christmas. I’d esepcially like to see the Garifuna dancers and listen to the Creole Christmas songs.
