If you're the same kind of traveler I am, your Central America vacations aren't filled with relaxation as much as they are with… travel. I tend to pack my trips with destinations. For me, two days in one spot is a substantial break, and the only times I've lingered longer were for Spanish school (Panajachel, Guatemala), dive certification (Utila, Honduras), or my own wedding (Caye Caulker, Belize).
At first glance, the Tranquility Bay Resort isn't exactly a prime destination for those afflicted with itchy feet. It's located in the extreme north of Ambergris Caye, much closer to the Mexican border than it is to San Pedro. It's a thirty-five minute boat ride into town. At current gas prices, boats aren't running every fifteen minutes, either.
So initially, I thought five nights at the Tranquility Bay Resort in Ambergris Caye was a little extreme. A sedentary vacation? Forced relaxation? Not for me.
But with comfortable rooms, a sociable staff, and one of the most picturesque and swimmable stretches of Caribbean beach on the entire island of Ambergris Caye, Tranquility quickly worked its magic on me. After just a few hours at the Tranquility Bay Resort, I felt myself easing in to the hotel's tranquil lifestyle. And after a few days, I didn't want to leave.
