Although Machaca Hill Lodge in southern Belize isn't oceanfront, the Caribbean Sea is just a quick drive from the hotel. Even better, the pristine Port of Honduras Marine Reserve is right offshore.
During our stay, Machaca Hill Lodge arranged a boat to take us island-hopping and snorkeling in the Port of Honduras Marine Reserve. It was an impossibly idyllic experience. The preserve includes 128 cayes, the majority of them uninhabited, as well some of the best snorkeling in Belize's under-touristed south.

After we explored the Port of Honduras Marine Reserve, Machaca Hill's staff dropped us off in Punta Gorda for some local color. Because it happened to be election season, said colors were pretty evenly split between red (UDP) and blue (PUP)!
