Cayo District is Belize's largest district, located in central western Belize and bordering Guatemala. It's the forested heart of the country; Belize's top ecotourism and adventure travel destination (especially in and around the district capital of San Ignacio), and home to Belmopan, the Belizean capital city.

Cayo is also a fantastic place to visit Mayan archaeological sites. Mayan ruins in Cayo include Xunantunich, Chaa Creek, Cahal Pech, and Caracol. The latter is one of the only ancient Mayan civilization to have defeated Tikal in Guatemala.
