In September, Costa Rica can be extremely rainy. However, the Caribbean slope experiences a dry spell in September.

    Highs of 76ºF
    Lows of 60ºF
    Average Rainfall: 13 inches
    Humidity: 86%
  • Manuel Antonio (Pacific):
    Highs of 86ºF
    Lows of 71ºF
    Average Rainfall: 21 inches
    Humidity: 90%
  • Limón (Caribbean):
    Highs of 87ºF
    Lows of 71ºF
    Average Rainfall: 5.7 inches
    Humidity: 87%

Costa Rica Events in September :


  • Independence Day: September 15th is a big day, not only in Costa Rica, but in most of Central America (all countries but Panama and Belize). On September 15th, 1821, the region declared independence from the Spanish crown. As a result, on and around that date Costa Rica erupts into patriotic celebration. Fantastically, on the 14th a torch is carried by relay race from Guatemala, where it arrives in Costa Rica on the 15th.

September is a great month to visit Tortuguero, Puerto Viejo, or Costa Rica’s other Caribbean beaches. Otherwise, start waterproofing those hiking boots!
