Picturesque Lake Atitlan Pathways

Kirsten Noelle Hubbard
Pathways leading along Lake Atitlan’s banks in either direction grow increasingly picturesque. Butterflies flit about, and colorful flowers cluster abundantly in the verdant vegetation. Wandering east, you’ll come upon indigenous settlements, and locals in vivid Mayan apparel going about their daily business.

Theoretically, every Lake Atitlan village can be reached by foot. However, doing so is no longer recommended, on account of reported robberies along the more remote trails. Yet it isn’t difficult to find a guide in town to escort you on some of the shorter hikes.
