Las Peñitas is a beachfront village on Nicaragua's Pacific coast, near Poneloya. It's around 20 minutes from Leon
(and two hours from Managua), which makes it an easy day trip for travelers staying in the colonial city
. There isn't tons to do in Las Peñitas: surfing, swimming and sunbathing on the village's black sand beaches will fill most visitors' time. But that's the reason they visit La Peñitas in the first place.
When swimming, though, watch out for ocean rocks -- Las Peñitas means "little rocks" in Spanish.
