While the southern Nicaragua beaches near San Juan del Sur are most popular for Nicaragua surfing, Las Peñitas is still a great place to catch a wave. I took my first surf lesson in Las Peñitas (I'm a terrible Southern Californian) My instructor was fun and patient, and didn't laugh too hard at my flailing. I stood up in the end. Las Peñitas surf schools include Coco Surf School and Pelikan Surf School.
