Maya Magic - Guatemala and Honduras Travel Itinerary

Two weeks is longer than you think:

With this travel itinerary, you can visit modern Mayan cities and ancient Mayan ruins, all on the same Central America vacation.

2-3 Days – Arrival and Antigua, Guatemala:

Fly into the capital of Guatemala, Guatemala City, and book a shuttle at the airport to take you to traveler-friendly colonial city, Antigua.

Compare rates on flights to Guatemala City (GUA)

5-6 Days – Lake Atitlan and Chichicastenango, Guatemala:

From Antigua, take a shuttle or chickenbus to Panajachel, on the shores of Lake Atitlan. As time allows, take boats out to Mayan villages, San Pedro La Laguna and Santiago Atitlan. On Thursday or Sunday, take a day trip from Panajachel to the country’s best Maya market at Chichicastenango.

2-3 Days – Quetzaltenango (Xela), Guatemala:

From Panajachel or Chichicastenango, take a shuttle to the beautiful highlands city, Quetzaltenango (Xela).

3 Days – Copan, Honduras and Departure:

Travel from Quetzaltenango back to Antigua. From there, book a tour out to the Maya ruins at Copan, right across the border in Honduras. Bus back into Guatemala City for departure.

It doesn't hurt to perfect your bargaining skills ahead of time!
