- Wildlife abounds! Bring your binoculars.
Cons
- About that wildlife: bring earplugs, or the howler monkeys will wake you up at 5am each morning!

Guide Review - Belcampo Belize Lodge and Farms in Toledo, Belize
Formerly known as Machaca Hill Lodge, the Belize hotel was recently bought by California-based Belcampo, a company which "owns and operates innovative agricultural ventures that aim to produce good food through integrated approaches to land management and food production." It's a good match for this property, whose sustainable farms are a key attraction (and an admirable one).
The setting of Belize's Belcampo Belize Lodge and Farms sells itself. Located in the under-touristed wilds of southern Belize's Toledo District, yet just a fifteen minute ride from Punta Gorda Town, Belcampo Belize Lodge and Farms boasts 11,000 private rainforested acres bordering the Rio Grande. From the balcony of the lodge's restaurant, the hotel's vast jungle vistas of the Laughing Falcon Reserve dance with birds -- including toucans! -- and other remarkable Belize wildlife. For travelers interested in staying in the heart of Belize's southern forests, without sacrificing luxury, Belcampo Belize is a great choice.
Prices are on the higher side for Belize eco-lodges, ranging between $330 for a suite in the low season to $525 in the high season. Rates are double-occupancy, and include round-trip transfer from the Punta Gorda airstrip, turn-down service, and complimentary activities. Food at Belcampo Belize's Arbor Restaurant is fantastic, if pricey; lunch is $30, and dinner is $55 for a 3-course meal, or $40 for a Belizean family-style meal. (Breakfast is included in room rates.) Because of the resort's remote jungle location, there aren't any other dining options, unless you've rented a car and can drive into Punta Gorda town.
Belcampo Belize Lodge's twelve private cabanas are immaculate, charmingly decorated and air-conditioned, with soaring views of Belize's Laughing Falcon Reserve. The hotel grounds are tidy, though the jungle presses in on all sides.
